fall movie preview

just to keep everyone in the loop, i thought i would post about some upcoming movies to look forward to this fall. these are the movies i have the most likelyhood of seeing, although now that im back to being a struggling college student, who knows how much money ill have to throw around. that just means ill have to be extra choosey!

anyway, click under the cut for the list, release dates, and possibly trailers.

opening sept 12th is brad pitts latest film, which i posted about probly a couple months ago. "Burn After Reading" is a movie by the legendary Cohen brothers, and luckily, they lightened it up this time. the trailer makes this film look genuinley funny and enjoyable, although im not sure it enticing enough to get me to spend 10 dollars. def a movie i would rent though. i bet this movie gets a little award buzz too.

also opening the weekend of the 12th is meg ryan's latest- "The Women". this film also looks really good and i had posted the trailer for it quite a while ago. this movie has a better chance of getting me out to the theater to be honest- mostly because i love me some grace adler.

the only movie on this list i can safely say there is a 100% chance of me going out and paying to see is.....THE DUTCHESS. what can i say, keira knightly looking fierce and a fierce love story to go along with it.

the first weekend of october marks another opening of a movie i had posted about previously- and that is simon pegg and megan fox's "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People". this movie has good concepts, but really seems like something that should have a limited release.

also opening that weekend is "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist", which honestly looks good but i think they are trying too hard to capitalize off of Juno's success. just call it my opinion. i love Kat Dennings but i wish mike cera could find another role to play that isnt the "shy wallflower nerdy" guy.

high school muscial 3 opens the weekend of the 24th, however im not sure im gonna go see it. my friends will probs end up dragging me, but its super hard for me to know my movie ticket will indirectly go to vanexxxa hudgen's pocket. even ashley tiz is starting to annoy me. im always up for a cheesefest though. this movie is sure to be a blockbuster- really the only one ive listed so far that i think will break the 100 mil mark within a week or two.

the weekend after, angelina jolie's drama "The Changling" opens. i dont see this making it big at the box office, since theres no scenes with her taking off her clothes, however she should win at all the major award shows as this will be a stellar performace from her (per usual).

im assuming this is thanksgiving weekend? but surprisingly, the november 26th weekend doesnt really knock my socks off. the only movie i think that looks slightly enticing is reese witherspoon and vince vaughn's "Four Christmases". and thats simply because i love reese witherspoon.

I have good news...and bad news.

the box office is all over the place this week. i dont even know where to begin i have so many things to tell you. lets start a list...

1. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was number one in the UK this weekend! yay! it grossed about 8 million there, with Wanted coming in second place with 7.6 mil. total gross there over the weekend was about 23 million. these also include numbers from Ireland and surrounding areas.
2. While its great that Narnia won the weekend, to give you a little perspective, the top opening weekend number of all time in the UK is 33.5 million (which would be kinda shitty in the US)..so these two movies are far from being spectacular.
3. The box office predictions for this weekend (domestically) were sorta off- because the actuals have Wall-E clocking in at about 63 mil and Wanted at just under 51 mil, which was less than the prediction i gave you sunday.
4. Wanted is currently the number one movie internationally- this includes all international domains- earning over 32 million overseas. crazy!
5. when you factor in some weekday numbers, Wanted domestically stands at 57.3 mil! total gross worldwide is around 82 mil. i hope you all realize how crazy these numbers are to be earned by an R film in a matter of 3 or so days. this movie is cleaning up. i feel so proud since ive been looking at press for this film all the way back during pre-production!

while im here, i might as well give you the predictions for the 4th of july weekend from weekend warrior. the only remarkable opening this weekend is Will Smith's Hancock, which ill probs never see. fridays numbers should be higher since everyone has off, then again it is a holiday so idk how many people are going to the movies..

1. Hancock- 72.8 mil
2. Wall-E- 41.5 mil
3. Wanted- 27.5 (im hoping for over 30)
4. Get Smart- 12.1
5. Kung Fu Panda- 8 mil

and there you have it! im box officed out for a while. Read more!

INCREDIBLE.

i saw Wanted. and really, i have no words for how amazing it was. it was funny, action packed, aesthetically pleasing (hello, james mcavoy and angelina jolie!). i even screamed at one part. those of you who have seen it can probably guess which part (involves dead people on meat hooks). all i can tell you is, SEE THIS MOVIE. itll be the best ten dollars you spend in 2008. or at least in the month of june.

and, we NEED more ass kicking females in this genre.

weekend warrior must be shitting his pants, you know with that measley 39 million estimate he gave Wanted. its dangerously close to surpassing Wall-E and we are talking about a fricken RATED R movie here! this is insane. check it---

1. Wall-E: 62.5 mil (these are only estimates, but wasnt this one supposed to pass 70?)
2. Wanted- 51.118 mil! ive never been so pleased by a second place opening.
3. Get Smart- 20 milz
4. Kung Fu Panda- 11.746 mil
5. Incredible Hulk- 9.226 mil

ill give you the adjustments tomorrow.

Sidenote- Chronicles of Narnia:Prince Caspian opened in the UK, France, and other regions this weekend. international numbers take alot longer to be updated, so ill have those for you like tuesday-ish. TOTAL weekend gross for all movies showing in the UK (or all ones that are tracked anyway) is only around 20 mil a weekend, and number one movies in america usually gross double that or more their opening weekend, so dont expect a large number.
UPDATE: THIS WEEKEND WAS ONE OF THE TOP GROSSING WEEKENDS IN BOX OFFICE HISTORY. this is also the FIRST WEEKEND IN HISTORY that two new releases opened with over 50 mil each. INSANITY. WANTED had the 6th or 7th highest ever opening for any R rated film ever released. Also, Angelina Jolie has TWO movies in the top five this weekend! what a bitch!

if you're bored

then theres an obscenely long article on comingsoon.net's page related to Brittany Snow and Matt Broderick who co-star in the film Finding Amanda. the movie screened somewhere in the last couple of weeks, i cant remember where, but i remember seeing pictures of bsnow in some magazine. anyways its a very involved interview with comedy writer Peter Tolan. its interesting but not a quick or easy read. the movie is in limited release starting this weekend- so basically only people in NY or LA will be able to see it. click here for the interview.

ALSO comingsoon.net is kicking ass today because they have a FEATURETTE with interviews by both angie AND james mcavoy for Wanted. its a must see for anyone anticipating this movie. click here

this ones gonna be a doozie.

whats really cute about this weekend is that there are two films being released that start with the letter "w"! i know that sounds corny, but both are expected to do really well, and they provide movie choices that are at two completely different ends of the film spectrum.

Wall-E is the epitome of a children's film- plus its made by Disney/Pixar, which equals BIG BUCKS for them.

Wanted is a rated-R action flick- and its what ill be seeing this weekend. either way, the two films have enough to get everyone out at the cinemas after kind of a shoddy weekend last week. Im so glad to finally have a decent R film to watch- i hate going to PG-13's that are filled with pre-teens before the curfew is over and their parents have to come pick them up. they are so damn loud and disrespectful (most of them).

This past weekend when i went to see Get Smart with my mom and this group of like 8 13 year olds came filing in as the movie was starting TALKING LOUDLY and laughing and whatnot, and i get it, its a comedy, but it didnt even start yet! then like 3 minutes in, one of the little boys said "cough cough" and they all got up and left. i was glad. this is just another reason i wish i lived in England- people dont make noise in the movie theatres.

so im done ranting now, and im gonna post the weekend warriors predictions..

1. wall-e----70+ mil! wow! ill be amazed if this actually happens. itll put it in a third place spot for opening weekends in 2008. it wont beat Indiana jones though- that ass licking movie cheated with the four day weekend and opened at over 100 mil!
2. wanted- about 40 mil, and i hope it does even better, but ill take it!
3. get smart- 21 mil
4. kung fu panda- 11 mil
5. incredible hulk- 10 mil

ps. i saw Sex and the City last night and i actually really enjoyed it! i was supposed to go for free, however, there were four of us and only two could use the free passes. i decided to take one for the team. well worth the money, however, i dont think ill ever be going to a clearview cinema ever again! the theatres are so small, and you feel like your herded in like cattle, and they freeze you out! AMC theatres are so much cleaner, more comfortable, and bigger! Read more!

god bless the New York Post

im really glad to see everyone raving about Wanted. This sunday's New York Post's insert- Pulse had a featurette on Angelina Jolie and her role in Wanted. here are some choice quotes:
"Here's a fun game: Try to imagine Angelina Jolie in the Sex and the City movie. You know, hanging with Carrie and the girls. Shoe shopping, giggling, brunching. Kind of makes your head hurt, doesnt it?"
..agreed...

"Last month, a poll of bikers rated her Tomb Raider motorcycle chase scene 'best two wheeled movie moment of all time.'"

"She seems to be this frail, slender, delicate creature when shes stolling down the red carpet, and then becomes to ultimate symbol of female empowerment in these films."

"One of Jolie's ideas for Wanted was, ironically, cutting down her own lines to make her character even scarier." (she explained this more in detail in her interview with EW)

"She has a great female following. If there were more woman like her, maybe there would be more films like [Wanted]."

WANTED OPENS THIS FRIDAY...SOOOOO EXCITED.

since wanted comes out in a couple weeks

great angie article! my fave quote:

"ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What would be your ideal way to spend a free Saturday?

ANGELINA JOLIE: I have a lot of those. Very simple things. On weekends we usually have family sleep. We always have one night a week where everybody stays up late, watches a movie, and stays in our bed. We have, like, a slumber party."

also, they have an exclusive clip from wanted. click here to check it out!

if you have ten minutes to waste,

then click here! i found a really cute little video by these guys who live in chicago where they filmed Wanted. some great great great behind the scenes footage of my lover james mcavoy and angelina jolie. one of the guys even mentions how hot james was a mr. tumnus in narnia! it was really cool to see a little bit of how a movie is made, very raw.  Read more!

god awful

1. sex and the city- 55,740,000

2. indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull- 46,000,000

3. the strangers (wtf?)- 20,707,000

4. iron man (im furious)- 14,000,000

5. the chronicles of narnia: price caspian- 13,016,000

there are your weekend estimates. everyone can laugh now about how i dismissed iron man so quickly. disney's ceo is probably shitting a brick right now. his cash cow is not looking too good.

narnia opens in australia and taiwan this weekend.

releases in america this week are kung fu panda (with angie) and that bullshit film dont mess with the zohan or what have you. panda will do well i suspect. i dont think the other one will even make it into the top five. i mean, adam sandler wore walmart jeans and a dirty shirt to his premiere! despicable.

for anyone who loves james mcavoy..

i found this trailer for wanted on a greek(?) website, basically showing the international trailer. this is not the cookie cutter version shown in america.

american trailers for wanted mostly feature angie, who is hot, but for my taste, id like to see more of james mcavoy. this one is basically all of him doing really hot things and without clothes on, etc. if you watch it without the sound (because its in another language), you can get a better idea of what you will be seeing in theatres.

FIERCE.

your daily dose

of james mcavoy goodness...

am i the only person whos counting down the days until WANTED comes out?

i mean, A. angies in it, and B. james mcavoys in it

and basically those are the only reasons you need.

turns out james was originally turned down for the part because he doesnt look like your typical "leading man". i happen to disagree, and so do most of my friends. didnt anyone see atonement? HOT.
