perez is back people! for a while his posts were completely devoid of anything interesting, comical, or worthy of more than a scan.

my neck hurts.

i just got done watching jane eyre- the masterpeice theatre version done by BBC (which cost me 30 DOLLARS at barnes a nobles) and all i can say is DAMN. four hours long. but it was prob my favorite version as ive seen a couple. i completely forgot how long it'd be.

i love how mr rochester is soooo handsome and witty and how jane is so awkward yet pretty in some way. i also forgot how dark the story actually is. i had previously thought charlotte bronte to be soo strikingly different from emily bronte, as Wuthering Heights is one of the darkest more depressing stories ive ever read (yet its my favorite novel of all time). Now in hindsight i see how similar they are in their tones, however emily takes it to a much greater level. anne bronte's novel is even dark in some ways yet seemingly more realistic and true to life. i love all three of them and its a shame we only got three substantial novels out of them (no im not good with poetry unfortunately).

this brings me to an entirely new point- a NEW adaptation of jane eyre, for BBC again no less. im a little apprehensive about the casting as of yet- recent news has labeled none other than ellen page (yes from juno) as the new jane eyre. this is a big mistake. im almost sure of it. there is no way she can pull off a role that has been so studied and deeply examined by literary scholars and amatuers alike (such as myself).

i beleive the role should be played by brits for it to have any level of authenticity- and this is coming from an american. jane eyre is not a role you blaspheme. i would have recommended sophie winkleman. who am i though? certainly not a casting director.

im stunned

SATC estimates for friday are high! 26 mil people. this puts it ahead of indiana jones which made under half of that.

and! my worst nightmares have come true- iron man is ahead of narnia, not by much but still. after a month of release you wouldnt expect it to surpass a movie thats only been out a couple of weeks. that weird strangers movie is currently in third place. who would have thought!

well it sure SEEMS that way anyway...thebadandugly posted a sort of test question with reasons why narnia is doing poorly. i couldnt seem to narrow it down to just one answer because most of them seem likely. except for the one about christians:

NARNIA IS DOING POORLY BECAUSE:
A) It was sandwiched between Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
B) It was poorly marketed and looked wholly uninteresting.
C) It had a veil of family-friendliness over it that turned off any non-children/non-Christian viewers (a medieval war movie without loads of blood? Who do they think they are, Lord of the Rings?)
D) It should have kept it’s original release date of Christmas 2007 and not tried to be a summer movie.
E) Marketing suffered when no catchy SNL Digital Short was released promoting the film.

the jolie-pitt family that is. i just heard about this movie today but it looks FANTASTIC and has got an excellent cast: brad pitt, clooney, and even tilda swinton (your white witch narnia fans). its called Burn After Reading and the trailer looks great. AND the film is by the Coen brothers, the ones that brought you No Country for Old Men. brad is just so damn cute in this movie ill go to see him alone.

if you're as crazy as i am

im pretty shamelessly obsessed with television. its quite sad actually- i mean i run a blog thats centered entirely around tv and movies-worlds that dont exist. however, i really dont give a crap.

which is why im going to admit my addiction to "twop" or television without pity. i was first introduced to this magical website while out on a business lunch with kpmg. waaayyyy back in the days when The O.C. was on, i used to go on weekly and read the reviews of each episode. their writers are absolutly hysterical and sometimes their insight is quite genius. chances are they will feature whatever your favorite show, even if its some shit reality show.

the forums are actually quite good as well. its pretty much where everyone who is equally obsessed with the show as u are come to talk and banter and argue- and the best part is most or all of the idiots stay far away so its really filled with egotistical intellectuals.

anyways the whole point of this post is that the review for the season finale of gossip girl is up. for those of you who will be pineing (sp?) away the whole summer for this show, the incredibly wordy recaps of the entire season should keep you busy and satisfied. Read more!

inneresting...box office

i failed to realize that narnia hasnt been released in a majority of countries yet. AND the indiana jones movie has been released almost everywhere. so far, indiana jones has racked up over $300 million worldwide, with release in roughly over 50 countries. narnia, on the other hand, has earned a little over $150 million worldwide with release on only about 12 countries. it has yet to be released in another dozen or so countries, including MAJOR markets such as France, Australia, and the UK. in fact, it doesnt even open until the end of june in the UK, and by that time, indiana jones will be past its peak in earnings weekends. fact is, iron man will be the top grossing movie of the summer. i just want it to be ANYONE but indiana jones.

on the forums, people are even predicting that iron man will top narnia, which i frankly dont see happening-its been in release for 27 days, and it would have to experience a low % drop from last weekend and narnia would have to experience an EXTREMELY high drop for this to happen. taking into account iron man's theatre count is going to be severly cut down due to the high theatre counts of indiana jones, narnia, and SATC (which will probly win the weekend). im quite new at all of this but i think its pretty obvious that iron man has had its run and got to benefit from the inflated memorial day weekend.

moral of the story is that narnia is a winter series and caspian should have been a winter or fall release instead of a summer. it simply cant compete with the blockbusters that are put out during the summer. soon the batman movie will be out, along with kung fu panda, and the incredible hulk (i think it might flop, but we will see). the bigwigs at disney better rethink their release of the next film, which is supposed to come out at the same general time that iron man 2 is supposed to be released. another disappointing box office will doom the franchise.

the most exciting casting news EVER

i dont really like to put things i read on http://www.perezhilton.com/ here, because i assume you have all read it already. but lately, perez has been going DOWNHILL...except for today i almost jumped out of my seat at work because he had posted that there was a possibility of JAMES MCAVOY playing the part of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, which is supposed to come out sometime in 2010. those are two long years people.

i never dreamed of them using james for the part because when i read the book, i sort of pictured him being a little older, even though i know he isnt as old as in the LOTR series. it will def be interesting to see how he interprets the character, etc. i read the book way back in high school so i dont remember the exact story line, which will prob help me enjoy the movie better. i saw all of the LOTR movies and LOVED them, so i have a feeling this one will be good too.

lets hope they can solve all of the litigation issues they have been having with Tolkien's son. i REALLY wanna see this movie make it to the production stages..soon. with this bit of news, you can be sure ill be updating regularly. check out perez for a few more details and some quotes from peter jackson.

jeez. thats blake lively on the set of her new film, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. she plays the younger version of the title character. all i can say is..wow. fug. ne ways the movie is about a women who is forced to live in a retirement communitee because her husband is old. yuk. this leads to a period of reflection about her life, and possibly a nervous breakdown. i know thats where id be.

lively is also in the upcoming film New York, I Love You. there are so many A-listers in that film i cant even list them. ne ways..i was basically desperate to write something about my beloved gossip girl cast and this was all there really was. sorry.

time magazine, or rather their website, has enlightened me that one of my favorite current authors, david sedaris, has a new collection of his stories coming out on june 3- title: When You Are Engulfed in Flames. i am the proud owner of both Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family and they are two of my favorite books. Sedaris makes humiliation and mortification, along with family "disfunctionality" seem ok and maybe even desirable. pick it up!

this makes alot of sense

i found a very interesting article on why Prince Caspian has not had as much commercial success as its predecessor, LWW. This weekend saw the opening of the new Indiana Jones movie, which shall remain nameless on this blog, because i hate it, however the film grossed a very impressive $151 million. this is the second largest memorial day opening in history, below Pirates of the Caribbean "Dead Mans Chest". Taking the Indiana Jones blockbuster out of the equation does not solve the low foot traffic problem of Narnia's theaters. Box Office Mojo has cited the following reasons for Narnia's faltering:

-all of the junk movies in the fantasy genre that were hastily released and poorly thought out, such as the Golden Compass and Bridge to Terabithia. 

-the long period between the release of LWW and PC caused many fans to lose interest in the franchise. 

-the book series by C.S. Lewis is not as popular as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. 

-the movie is centered around a character (Caspian) that only those who have read the books will recognize..it is hard to garner an emotional attachment to an unfamiliar character who they have focused much of their marketing on. maybe running more press on the 4 pevensie children, and featuring them on the billboards instead. like peter for example. 

all in all, maybe its just my love for william moseley and ben barnes that makes me so defensive of this movie. maybe it isnt so great after all. i have not seen iron man, who-it may be noted- almost beat narnia's numbers this weekend, even though it has been out for weeks, and i also will not be seeing indiana jones.

many (or all of you) know of my affinity for anything and everything that comes out of the u.k., especially when it comes to music. so i had to tell you about this new band i have discovered..the duke spirit. they have a sound very similar to jefferson airplane. the band is relatively new, releasing their first album in 2005, eventually making it to the coachella music festival in 2006. for anyone who doesnt know coachella, it is an extremely popular concert festival happening every spring in california. its where you find up and coming and already popular alternative bands, electronica, and certain hip hop artists.

they have only reached a small level of success as of yet, but as well all know commercial success isnt everything. anyways..check them out at www.myspace.com/thedukespirit if you trust my musical taste.

this pisses me off

soo apparently, unbeknownst to me, natalie portman was supposed to play cathy earnshaw in the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, but the bitch blew off the role last minute before filming began. she blamed this on "scheduling" conflicts.

actually, im glad. this is no role to be just giving away to anyone. wuthering heights is my favorite book of all time, and i ill be pissed if the movie sucks, even though theres already about 5867584 versions of it already. seems period peices are all the rage now. and you can give most or all of the credit to keira knightly. i tried finding some more information on the movie but did not prevail. however, i did find that Michael Fassbender (pictured) is in negotiations to play healthcliff, one of the main characters.

i have an unhealthy obsession with the chronicles of narnia. its just..they have such a handsome cast!

also i have little updates on everyone. believe me, it was soooo hard to pick just one picture of william moseley to put on here. make that two. i found all of these pictures at each of the actors fan websites.

ben barnes looks absolutley like a greek god, all drazzed up in his suit. william without any shirt! O.M.G IM DYING. even the girl who plays susan cleans up quite nicely! her eyes are quite striking. she has bad teeth though so im glad she kept her mouth shut in her picture haha. not sure why it came out so small though?

anyways...ben barnes has just been cast as dorian in the film adaptation of A Picture of Dorian Gray written by the gay playwright Oscar Wilde. im actualy reading it right now weirdly enough. oscar wilde has a way of really spinning language like its a song. just beautiful. cant wait to bring you more info of this.

as for my bb moseley, he claims he is being very selective in choosing his next role, and i could find no information on future projects.

anna popplewell, who plays susan is in a production of "spring awakening" at her college in the next week, which is oxford actually, pretty bitchin. i wish i went to oxford. this is not the trashy rock opera thats being played here in the states, but the original play which was written by a german author, and has been banned in britain for like 5o years or something like that. theres actually a rape scene in it *shudders* which must be awkward as hell to act. i give the girl some cred for actually going to college, acting in student productions, and balancing all this shit with narnia coming out right at the same time. i thought my life was busy.

i might be the only person on earth who cares enough to report this, but for those who used to watch the oc, used to love to oc really...then u remember autumn reeser who played taylor townsend. shes in the new lost boys sequel, "lost boys 2: the tribe". obvi its a movie that will only be enjoyed by those who liked the first, therefore it is being released straight to dvd sometime this summer. i kinda hoped it would be something that jumpstarted reeser's career since i think she did such a good job at revitilizing the oc at the end of its run. anywayz hopefully we will see it on starz or something.

this is just what i wanted to hear.

word on the street is, indiana jones SUCKS.

it made 4.5 mil on weds, which isnt bad for a mid-week early memorial day weekend opening.
i guess we will see how it does for the rest of the weekend but all of this bad buzz is great news for narnia and its weekend numbers. depending on how caspian does, it will determine the fate of the franchise and how many more of the movies they will do. im really pulling for them to make it all the way to the last battle, because i beleive that means peter pevensie will be back and gracing the screen again. uh oh...

perez hilton stated the other day on his blog that the "cw network is failing" and that "one or more owners are ready to bail out" on the channel.

this is bad news for anyone who loves gossip girl, as i do. monday night showed the networks second highest ratings in its two year history, yet still it is being trumpeted as a "major disappointment" by some insiders at the wall street journal.

wsj needs to shut up. they dont know what they are talking about. obviously people are going to focus in more on the major networks because they are well known and better advertised. they will naturally get more veiwers. this is not anything new.

the truth is that the cw has one GREAT show, a couple decent shows (one tree hill and antm), and a host of terrible ones. they just need to do better chosing their programing.

next season's premiere of the 90210 "redo" should be good for them, although i suspect that show is going to be terrible. i suppose we will have to wait for the upfronts in the fall before we find out what cw's future will be.

get out your checkbooks ladies

as you all are well aware, the economy is in the shitter, which means that naturally stores will be closing some of their branches in malls, standalones, etc.

i thought id send out a little warning because when this happens, its sometimes the best opportunity to run out and get some things, that is if there are closings and liquidations nearby.

retail stores such as pacsun and ann taylor plan on closing over 100 each of their stores before 2010.

pier one imports is planning on closing only about 25 of its stores, but this could be a great time to go out and get some furniture! i know of a few of these stores near me that have been underperforming.

also now may be the time to buy expensive jewelry! certain jewelers are being hit hard, because no one has the money to be putting into the luxury market right now. one particular store is liquidating over 400 million in jewelry. wow.

basically just keep your eyes out. although many people may be staying in and not spending, now may be, and actually is, the best time TO spend.

i call bullshizz

recently i showed a picture of mike myers with la lohan filming the token parody party that they show at the beginning of every mtv movie awards.

i decided to take a look at the nominees this year and..two words: vomit inducing.

mtv decided to completely distance themselves from credible awards shows such as the academy awards and the golden globes.

they have the absolute nerve to put "i now pronounce you chuck and larry" on the ballot! please...

however..these are my picks for each category. i dont even know if ill watch. i may just wait and see who won the next day on yahoo news.

best comedic performance: has to be jonah hill from superbad, even though i hated him in forgetting sarah marshall

best female performance: katherine heigl in knocked up

best fight: this category is bullshit..however narnia (:D) better be nominated next year.

best kiss: the only movie thats nominated that i have seen is disturbia. god, its difficult for me to even complete this list!

best male performance: somehow no country for old men and there will be blood were ignored in this category..so ill have to go with denzel in american gangster.

best movie: this category is a laughing stock..i mean national treasure is nominated. im gonna go with pirates of the carribean, even though i havent seen it yet, because its the only movie in the category that doesnt make me cringe.

best summer movie (so far): OMG hands down prince caspian :) :) :).....however i dont think itll actually win because its actually a good movie. there are alot of possible winners. i think probs iron man will win although i could see indiana jones winning. sex and the city doesnt stand a chance.

best villian: somehow they made this a decent category? javier bardem will win.

narnia was fanfriggentastic. i could have gone with a shirtless peter scene though. i would have even settled for a shirtless caspian. however i got neither.

caspian grossed just under 60 million, which is a little less then their opening weekend last time around. speculators claimed that the sequel was set to make more around 80 mil in its opening weekend.

the indiana jones movie comes out this thursday and "is supposed to blow all other movies out of the box office". i say bullshizzzz.

i guess we willl see shall we?

i found out when they will be releasing the gossip girl season one on dvd. i already bought the episodes on itunes but i probs end up buying the dvd too.

you can buy the dvd at retailers starting on august 19th, but i beleive they are taking pre-orders now at amazon. youll have to lay down 60 dollars though.

its really really good, sort of just the right mix of adele and my wino, yet she has her very own sound.
