after i started my love affair with M.I.A i wanted to find some other artists kind of with a similar style. santogold is similar, but fucking DIFFERENT at the same time. shes kinda more hardcore than M.I.A. im seriously in love with this album. if you like kind of an ethnic spin on your rap/electronica -check santogold out. i bought the album off itunes but check out some songs here on her myspace.
have you ever seen that boost mobile commercial where theres like jermaine dupri (spelling?) and i think young jeezy and then this skinny white guy with makeup on? well the white guy's name is Mickey Avalon and hes fabulous. with his sort of ambiguous sexuallity and overwelming confidence he spits the funnest rymes ive heard since missy elliot circa early 2000's. i read a very extensive article written about him and his life experiences (found it via wiki) and the guy has gone through some tough shit. his dad was a hardcore herione addict- which transferred to himself and his sisters, his mom sold weed for a living, and he walked in on his dead sister after a herione overdose. although you see traces of this in his lyrics, it does not overwelm the music, which is evident in almost all other hip-hop artists. i am not really a fan of hip-hop, but these two artists are unique exceptions to the rule. listen to some of mickey's music here.
